Secondary

This refers to the third stage of compulsory basic education. It consists of four (4) years of junior high school and two (2) years of senior high school education. The entrant age to the junior and senior high school levels is typically twelve (12) and sixteen (16) years old respectively.

For the purpose of realizing the potentials of each and every student in the formal education system, the following objectives of secondary education should be realized:

  • To continue to promote the objectives of elementary education.

  • To discover and enhance, in addition, the different aptitudes and interests of the individual student so as to equi[ him/her with skills to a productive endeavor and this prepare him/her for work in the real world and/or for further formal studies in higher education.

Elementary

This is the second stage of the compulsory basic education program which is composed of six (6) years. The entrant age to this level is typically six (6) years old.

For the purpose of realizing the potentials of each and every pupil in the formal education system, the following objectives of the elementary education should be realized:

  • To provide knowledge and develop the skills, attitudes, and values essential to personal development necessary for living in and contributing to a developing and changing social milieu.

  • To provide learning experiences which increase the child’s awareness of and responsiveness to the changes in and just demands of society and to prepare him/her for constructive and effective involvement;

  • To promote and intensify the learner’s knowledge of identification with, and love for the nation and the people to which he/she belongs;

  • To promote work experiences which will develop the learner’s orientation to the world of work and creativity and prepare himself/herself to engage in honest and gainful work.

Preschool

With the enactment of the Republic Act 10157 (Sec. 1 & 2) on January 20, 2012, Kindergarten is now mandatory and compulsory for all five-year-old learners. It is the first stage of the basic education system, thus becoming a requirement for entrance to Grade 1.

Central to the kindergarten curriculum is the child who is envisioned to be prepared for life. It is anchored on the developmental practices and leading early childhood education principles and approaches.
